This course focuses on design and imaging techniques including discussions on digital composition, color, imaging, editing and animation. Students will work on different types of projects throughout the year, while learning the necessary software and skill to create these projects. Students will use digital cameras and scanners to assist in producing digital images. The lessons will consist of notes covering the topics followed by an exercise to practice the skills. This course covers the editing and creation of both 2D and 3D objects. Individual work, group work and presentations will be expected.

Alvin ISD requires a fee for all Art courses. This fee will be used to purchase consumable goods for our class. The fee for DA&A is $20.
Course Goals: 1. To learn the technical skills necessary to create digital art, graphics and/or animation. 2. To learn to use images as a means to artistic communication. 3. To introduce and explore various ways of seeing and communicating.
Course Format: This class will be covered by way of lecture, discussion, demonstration, presentations and guest speakers. This course is project-based. You will be given the necessary skills then assigned a project that demonstrates those skills.
Critiques: We will have critiques. Critiques are an opportunity for students to share opinions and ideas about work. It is an excellent way to articulate your thoughts and fine-tune your visual awareness skills. Everyone will be expected to participate. Disrespect will not be tolerated!
Current Events: Technology is changing rapidly and in order to keep up with the new trends you will be required to read and summarize an article related to technology. This summary must be at least one page in length and typed. You must include a citation of the current event you read. Good grammar and spelling are expected. This will count as a test grade. Detailed information will be give prior to first assignment. Due dates will be FIRM! Plagiarism is unacceptable!!
Grading: This class will be graded on a daily effort, tests and completion of projects.
Daily and Other grades: 20% Minor: Quizzes and Step-by-Step Tutorials: 30% Major Projects: On Your Own Projects: 50%
You will be penalized for late work according to the AHS student handbook.
